Wow, I hit a nerve...
Okay--I just checked my site on Barnes and Nobles to see if I sold any books there (have I mentioned just how narcissistic I really am? no? well, let me tell you...) Okay--that same critic that panned me on amazon.com hated me enough to copy her review on to Barnes and Nobles--I mean, LIR and I both copied our GOOD reviews on Barnes and Nobles--but SERIOUSLY--how badly did I offend this chic with my blatant comma abuse? Was her uncle a comma? Did she have a family member in publishing fired because of a comma misprint? I'm totally cracking up over this--it's like she's been siezed by a religious zeal to punish me for daring to publish a book rife with comma problems... I mean, I thought I had problems, but this woman has taken grammar nazi-dom to heretofore unreached levels--no more whining for me! Anyone with THAT much time and anger on her hands needs the good graces of the universe at large much more than I do...everybody in blogdom send a happy thought her way!!!!!

that person sounds like they have too much time on their hands and a bad attitude or something. I'm sorry you have to experience their frustration and problems.
LOL! OK, so, I published a series on Motley Fool some years ago that achieved a certain (tiny, momentary) amount of fame.
I got my own personal critic, who stalked me all over the boards to nitpick my ... and ; and : useage, and to demand to know what THAT had to do with anything and to tell the WHOLE WORLD HOW MUCH SHE HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT ME.
Ain't fame great?!
Yeah--fame (even tiny potatoes fame:-) really is funny--I mean when I got that first bad review I was totally hurt, but now, I'm like "Gees--if you hated my book so much, go write your own!"
Dont worry about it. It sounds like she has issues. I love your books and am anxiously awaiting Bound.
eeek! A fan!!! Another fan! An unsolicited person who likes my books!!!!! Are you the same fan who wrote my 21st and very positive review? Pull up a chair, let me get you something to drink, would you like some yarn?
Oh, wait...uhm... was that me fawning? Let me pull myself together...
So... thank you so much for the positive comments!!! I'm really really glad you liked the books! Are there any more book people out there? Any questions you might have? (There, guys--was that more dignified?)
LOL Yes, that was me on Amazon. I just couldn't stand seeing a negative review of your wonderful books. I know it wasn't much, seeing as my writing abilities suck. Unfortunately, I do not know how to knit.(gasp) Any suggestions on how to learn?
whooo boy...did you come to the right place...
Actually--I could do a whole other poll on it...
I learned from buying a 'How To' book--but I've taught enough teenagers to know that sometimes people just need someone to move their hands around until the muscles make sense--your Local Yarn Store (which, curiously enough figures huge in BOUND) is a good place to find lessons--there are also some dvds out at Michael's and Joanne's (which have lessons as well...).
But it's okay, darlin'--you're not obligated to knit to come say hello:-)
But since we've brought it up--where did everybody else learn to knit? Just wondering...
I hope you don't respond to her on both B&N & amazon. Or rather, maybe you could respond to her on B&N but with a completely different response,
"Hey sweetie, nice to see you again on the B&N site. Thank you for being so thoughtful as to post your thoughts twice for me -- you're really looking out for people when you post several times to make sure they get it. But honey, I assure you, I got your meaning and message. I am so confident you get mine, too, that I'm NOT going to repeat my last response to you.
Are you an editor, sweetheart? You should take those talents of yours and seek out a living. Don'tcha think it a shame to waste your skills on no-paying online posts??"
Yayy for Robin! What a world of excitement lies in store for her!
Gee, I'm kind of jealous. My book doesn't sell well enough to get a critic. And you've got one dinging you on TWO different sites!
(Roxie--I loved your book--it's too good not to sell--don't worry, give it time--you will have your own personal critic, I'm sure!)
Well, crapicola sandwiches! Hatefulness with a mission. Whatsa matta with her anyway?
May her chocolate chips go lousy.
Hey Ms. Lane I just wanted to stop by and say that I love your books. I love the departure from the normal otherworldly beings who always seem to live in another realm separate from any troubles. All in all I just love everything about them. I saw that negative review and all I could think was hmm someone has nothing better to do and wants to try to bring someone else down.
Anyway longtime reader of your blog, first time poster but wonderful job with the books and I really hope you get a major publisher soon. I read many many mainstream published books that simple can not hold a candle to yours.
Wow--thanks Haylo! So glad to hear from you--and I'm really glad you enjoy the books. I'm so itchy for BOUND to come out...I feel really honored to have so many people who've spoken out about the books in general, and I'm hoping BOUND will reward them for their patience and good faith. Of course, I'm REALLY hoping it doesn't disappoint any of them--I totally hate that.
Hey there Ms. Amy Lane,
I just wanted to say that I was surfing around on Amazon looking for a new book to read and stumbled onto yours... and the crazied comma lady's review! Notice I have not used a comma yet? I don't think reviews like that (focused on some sort of tyranical view of grammer rules) should have any impact on people looking for a good story. I plan on getting your book because the story sounds fab!
thanks :)
Wow--thanks Jennifer--please let me know if the story lives up to your expectations! (That's the kind of criticism I value the most anyway!) Thanks for posting--and I really hope you like the book!
