And in addendum:

Item the First: Governor Arnold is going to cut the education budget so severely next year that he's going to send the state with one of the highest costs of living in the nation into the exalted position of 46th in the nation in terms of $$$ per kid. Thanks, Governor, you're doing exactly what I thought you would when the rest of the state voted for you in Terminator II.

Item the Second: I got my latest rejection letter for *Bitter Moon I* from a publishing company today. Now some people cheerfully say that they paper their walls with their rejection letters, but after I rip mine into little pieces, spit on them, and throw them in with the cat-litter, I really don't see the point.

*sigh*

If I didn't hate my fourth period so much I'd show movies tomorrow and wallow in my depression, but really, I'd forego all of the movie going pleasure to piss those people off. Now THAT'S something to look forward to!

  1. Your "yarnbarf" comment over at Chez Harlot made me laugh out loud. Then I came here and saw what you meant…and laughed even harder!

  2. Sorry to hear about the cut in the education budget. Arizona has been near the bottom of the nation for a long time in $$$ per pupil. The sad part is that many of our citizens think that is ok because "kids don't need all that fancy stuff, just the 3 R's like I had".
On a positive note, I firmly believe that the publishers will someday be envious that they didn't sign "overnight success" Amy Lane! My Bitter Moon arrives tomorrow and I can hardly wait.

  4. Is your new kitty litter flushable? That's a big no-no there in sunny CA.

Hope you get something worked out.

  5. Oh yeah - all that fancy schmancy education stuff - who really needs it? Look where Arnie's got on steroids, sexual harassments and an acting style resembling a double wardrobe!
Publishers rejected Matthew Riley too - and he self published! BM1 is great! and I can't wait for BM2!

  6. My condolences on the budget cut. I could wax poetic on the lack of funding pretty much everywhere for education, but, well, you work in the system, you know what's going on.

Rejection sucks, there's no two ways about it. And now that things are more established here in PA, I'll make you an offer I only make a few friends. Everyone else, please feel free to move along to the next part of this. Nothing to see here...*looks innocent* See, I have this boyfriend, who has a pickup truck. He also has a weapon that fires projectiles at a rapid pace. And, well, I'm familiar with the Pine Barrens, and whole towns have disappeared down there... All I need is an address, or some names or license plates....*whistles*

Your picture of yarn barf made me giggle, and feel much better about my yarn mess. Thanks for making me smile some more.

  7. Ahnold is living up (or down) to expectations. We have a governor who is struggling with the highest property taxes in the country and trying to find enough money to keep the schools going. Being a rich guy, he has given his salary back to the state. Maybe we should send him over there to speak with Ahnold. He's a little guy but he's got balls. He's taking on the state employees unions. Nobody touches their benefits. Until now.

  8. Wonder what sort of scores the Gubernator got on his US Citizenship tests.

When it comes to school funding, you know he would change his tune fast if public opinion swayed that way. Why don't people realize that it costs money to eddicate the little bastards?
