Quick Question...

Say, if someone has had a gauge accident and has produced--just for the sake of argument, mind you--a hat that would probably fit a two-year old (because it is a wee bit too big for my 20 month old) when someone (won't say who!) has to give this hat away at a baby shower on Sunday thrown by a colleague who has no problem giving me five months notice on the gender of his impending baby and then throwing the shower three months early...

Say if this had happened, and then I...I mean someone...proceded to make matching gauge accident socks, would it be acceptable to just throw a size label on these items, and pretend that, uhm, the perpetrator of this gauge disaster actually MEANT to do that?

Just wondering...

And, for your enjoyment, a picture of Ladybug, a picture of socks, and a picture of the puffy-yarned scarf modeled by a very reluctant chicken. In case you all thought I'd stopped knitting.

  1. I was so sad the day my baby outgrew the last of his shower gifts. Put a tag on it "for when he/she outgrows the shower gifts". Actually, what was awesome was getting duplicates of the cutest things in two sizes, so he could keep wearing them as he grew.

  2. Of course, because everyone gives new born sizes, and then when the kid is say 6 months old, 12 months old, sudden lack of something to wear!!!
Go with the whole "I planned it this way" line. Shows foresight.

  3. I make stuff larger, because babies grow so fast. And socks for Mom also! You are thoughtful!

  4. What is wrong with any of those things!!!

  5. I agree that having some larger sized stuff for a new baby is a fortunate event not a mistake! The fact that you actually knitted something makes the gift particularly special.

  6. like everyone else said - you planned it.

And your kids are, as always, cute.

  7. Obviously the universe decided that you needed socks the size they came out. Stick that size lable on them and claim them proudly. Nice socks by the way! Puffy scarf and Chicken are both soo pretty. And the Ladybug is impishly irresistable.

  8. Go for it and give the hat! After I had my little guy I really appreciated the bigger sized items because, lets face it, the smaller 0-3 & 3-6 months sized items are rarely used...the baby will spit up all over them and for the most part they are not partical for the baby to wear!

    Have a great Thanksgiving!
